The US of A are 5th in the World can you beleive that?? Mental
You can blame FIFA for that. Methinks someone sees a huge market to tap and it getting a bit optimistic. ;-) Too bad the Americans aren't up to it. Although to be fair, the Czechs would've knocked off a lot of teams with their play today. They are looking scary.

This is strange. Last week, I posted some info on PETA since they are HQ'd here and my newspaper covers them. So now this. Pat Robertson is from here (Virginia Beach, where he broadcasts from) so we cover this nutbag too. What's up with the freaks in my backyard? Anyhoo, the plane was leased to a seperate company that handles charters. No one on board was associated with ol' Pat. 3 passengers escaped unharmed. It was the pilot and copilot that died, sadly.
But while we're talking about Robertson, the regular pipeline of ridiculousness just doesn't stop. Last week, his website put up the claim that ... drum roll please ... Pat can leg-press 2,000 pounds! That's right, 1 TON! I guess we can say all that holy spirit must be going right to his thighs. ;-) -

Enjoyed it for the action, but I was disappointed it wasn't able to weave a better plot. That was what made X1 and X2 so good: great action and above-average story. This was more of the big-budget, small-brain stuff we get all summer. Still fun, though.

Love my job. I'm a newspaper designer and, frankly, most of my coworkers - reporters, editors, ect - work a lot harder than me. But I have fun. I do wish it paid better, but I'm a pretty low-key guy with no family, so I don't need much.

PETA Protest Backfires
by Stephanus inhttp://www.gjsentinel.com/news/content/news/stories/2006/05/18/5_18_1a_kfc_protest.html
a human inside an injured-chicken costume, hobbling in protest on the sidewalk wednesday in front of a kentucky fried chicken restaurant, didnt achieve the desired effect, according to many who dined there.. brad steig called wednesdays protest in grand junction by the people for the ethical treatment of animals good advertising for kfc.. the protest consisted of four adults and one child holding signs in front of the restaurant, handing out fliers and dvds and urging people to not eat at kfc until the restaurant buys chickens from humane vendors.. steig, a manager for halliburton, said he heard about the peta protest on the radio and decided right then to eat at kfc on wednesday, the day of the protest.. not only that, but he bought seven of the biggest buckets of chicken and all the side dishes and used four trips to load them into his halliburton pickup to treat his co-workers.
i don't know if there's an "ultimate" right-wingers' fantasy, but collecting 7 buckets of fried chicken in a halliburton pick-up in front of a peta protester must come pretty close.

What I am reading on this forum about PETA is unsettling to me.
It's funny (OK, not really funny), but I live literally three blocks away from PeTA in downtown Norfolk. I live on the fifth floor of my apartment bldg, so I can actually look out my window at it. Stephanus is absolutely right about these people. I work for the local newspaper that broke the story about the two members killing dogs and cats and dumping them in trash bins. Nasty stuff. The worst part was, PeTA had these shelters and clinics under the impression that they were taking these animals to find better homes. Perhaps a bit naive on the part of the shelters, since most of these animals simply can't be placed anywhere. They are euthanized, like untold thousands every year here in America. It's a sad story, really, but what's really sad about this case is that PeTA deliberately misled these local clinics (which have their own facilities to euthanize animals) because they believed they wouldn't be euthanized "humanely." Then their people went tossing them in dumpsters along the side of the road.
The worst part? This: "Both have been released on $35,000 bail, and PETA is paying their legal fees. PETA suspended Hinkle for 90 days and did not discipline Cook."
Nice.

"A lot of younger bethelites are ultra-concerned about the image of Bethel and their image along with it."
Yep, been there, done that. I think that's where this letter is coming from. Another positive I see here is that some disillusionment and disarry may wake some of these former bethelites up. That may not have happened if they stayed in their little world at bethel. (I know it did me a world of good.) -

5th. I think. My grandmothers grandmother was a 'bible student' sometime before the turn of the century in pennsylvania. At least, that's what my mother/grandmother always said. Who knows? Anyway ... I think that makes/made me a 5th. All I know is, I got a helluva a lot of family not talking to moi. Stupid screwed-up religion.
